History in the Making: Britain during #Brexit

StoryFORMing is grounding me in my real-time response to the EU Referendum.

I've written and posted articles on Medium, since the EU Referendum results were announced on June 24, 2016. The result of my publishing has been a set of conversations that is leading me to spearhead an event on September 5, 2016 at Conway Hall. Planning, with Conway Hall's chief executive, Dr Jim Walsh kicked off last week. Here's the sketch that invites contributions.

Discovery card deck: Will you put up your hand to help?

storyFORMing is a “story design” process unlike anything else available. Providing the perfect complement to familiar startup tools like Business Model or Lean Canvas, storyFORMing is used both for visioning and pitch presentation preparation. With your help, a crowdfunded card deck will soon be available.

Is this you???

Is this you?

Are you

  • trying to impact the world through work
  • working on, or intend to create, their own startup ( or "thing" if campaign or initiative is a better descriptor than startup)
  • motivated by the desire to make money, to disrupt the status quo or both
  • compared to peers, would you describe yourself as relatively or very open to new experiences?

Which pains points burn?

Do you think or say:

"I need to find a clear way to explain why what I want to do matters."
AND ALSO
"Time is a big pressure. I need to show progress in a complex arena before I erode whatever support I have for my idea from my friends and family."
OR
"Working in a complex field, I need to be ready to make better use of the meetings I land, and the people I meet."
OR
"My social enterprise needs a business model that isn't not-for-profit."

Do you also worry:

"While I need to build my reputation, or leverage it better, run-of-the-mill advice doesn’t work with me."
OR
"I know mentors help people at my stage break new ground and build momentum, but I don’t know how to find one I trust."

High-res storyFORMing

How does the canvas create a story?

When a canvas is chock full of rich, vivid specific information, stories can leap out at the reader. Which story you choose to share should be shaped by the context and occasion of its telling. The great thing about storyFORMing is that these choices remain open to you, so the story you tell here and now is both authentic and fresh.

To get to these options requires rich, vivid, specific content in each of the shapes.

Upcoming storyFORMing events

The latest newsletter from KILN describes upcoming events: three of which feature storyFORMing. I'll be headlining at Planning-ness, with a 1-hour-45min interactive keynote in May. In June, I'll be leading a 2.5 hour Extending Workshop at CPSI (the Creative Problem Solving Institute conference in Buffalo, NY, now in its 61st year). In July, I'll be taking storyFORMing to ICOT, the International Conference on Thinking which this year is in Bilbao.
